Stable bookings as big names return
Exhibitor numbers for this year’s ITB are stable and have been boosted by the return of several major players in the global travel industry. Fvw will once again be publishing the bilingual ‘fvw ITB Daily’, the official newspaper of the world’s leading tourism fair.
Current booking levels for ITB are outstanding, underlining its role as the world's leading travel trade show, Messe Berlin announced. From 10 to 14 March a total of around 11,000 companies and organisations from over 180 countries and territories will be exhibiting their products and innovations in the 26 halls on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. This year more than 110,000 trade visitors are expected at the show.
In 2009 a total of 11,098 companies from 187 countries exhibited their products and services to 178,971 visitors, who included 110,857 trade visitors.
The focus this year is on Turkey as partner country, which is organising the opening ceremonies on 9 March and will have exciting products and services to show to both trade visitors and the general public.
David Ruetz, Senior Manager ITB Berlin, commented: "The recession has had a severe impact on every holiday destination in the world and has affected all forms of vacationing. With this in mind, ITB Berlin as a network platform and marketing instrument for exhibitors and trade visitors has become more important than ever. As the global travel industry's leading trade fair it accurately reflects the current economic situation.”
Exhibitor stand bookings are stable and on a level with last year's figures, Messe Berlin reported. In particular, this year major players such as Fraport and United Airlines are returning to ITB Berlin. In the Travel Technology section Sabre Travel Network and Dolphin Dynamics are back after an absence of several years.
In terms of tourism regions, there are new exhibitors from Asia while Thailand and Indonesia are occupying considerably larger stands. The Africa halls are fully booked, Zanzibar and Gambia have returned and Djibouti is exhibiting its products for the first time since 1991. In the fully-booked India hall, Kerala is occupying an even larger display area yet again and the Rajasthan Tourism Board has a joint stand for the region for the first time. There are also more US exhibitors.
The Luxury, Low Budget, Education and Travel Technology sections will also be larger this year with new exhibitors. ITB Berlin is offering international companies their own platform in the Mobile Travel Services section for the first time.
ITB Berlin 2010 will take place from Wednesday, 10 to Sunday, 14 March. Parallel with the trade fair, the ITB Berlin Convention will be held from Wednesday to Friday, 10 to 12 March 2010. Further details can be found under www.itb-berlin.com and www.itb-convention.com/program .
