New cruise record

More than one million Germans took a cruise holiday last year, setting a new record for the market segment, the annual survey by the German Travel Association DRV revealed.

A total of 1.025 million passengers went aboard in 2009, a 13.2% increase on the previous record set in 2008. German cruise revenues soared 14% to 1.9 billion euros. The average length of voyages rose slightly to 9.7 days, and the average cruise price was stable at 1,881 euros. Most popular destinations were the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the North Sea/Baltic Sea region.
